Crime and Punishment
Every planet has a shady side, even Obroa-Skai. The Alpine Clan has run organised crime here for over a hundred years. They specialise in smuggling, the creation and distribution of narcotics and, it’s whispered they control many of the planet’s luxurious hunting lodges. The Clan is a loose collection of locals deeply familiar with the planet’s terrain who felt they were being left out of decision making and funding by the big cities. There are few who know the planet better, but also few more dangerous.
So they sound like the perfect folks to try and recruit for the war effort! Nimi Roth has organised a sitdown at the Most Dangerous Game hunting lodge. Now all you have to do is convince the crime syndicate that working against the Mandos is good for business.
In this All Day Event PCs will try to convince the Clan’s lieutenants and its feared boss without winding up feeding the ice fishes.
This All Day Event is open to all PCs.
Advantage and Disadvantage are turned into boost and setback for that character’s next roll at a rate of 2 to 1. Triumphs upgrade the ability of the next check targeting that lieutenant or boss, despair’s upgrade the difficulty of the next roll targeting that lieutenant or boss.
To succeed the players need to either convince 3 lieutenants or 2 lieutenants and the boss. Convincing all the lieutenants and the boss will be considered a critical success
Every player character has 3 attempts to convince a member of the Clan. These can be done in any order. However, as the difficulty increases for each lieutenant after each attempt it is recommended players coordinate beforehand.
Lieutenant Trem ‘Hairs’ Fakale (Bothan, male)
The Clan’s go to for all smuggling and their point man for handling off world contacts, Trem is the son of immigrants, something the Clan loves to rib him about. A quiet, professional man whose nickname comes from his near prenatural instincts (causing his hair to stand up) he finds the entire premise of the Smiling Bothan distasteful but is not prepared to discuss the irony of his own involvement in organized crime.
PCs can approach Trem with either negotiation, skulduggery or astrogation (representing striking a good deal, offering interesting underworld info or providing star charts respectively.) His starting difficulty is average with one setback ◆◆■, and the difficulty of the check upgrades by one after every PC attempt. After 3 successful attempts he will be convinced.
Lieutenant Stromvel ‘Stone Fist’ Wudark (Dowutin, male)
Stromvel is the muscle, which at 7’4” and 350 pounds is pretty easy. Many Dowutin moved to Obro-Skai 80 years ago to work the mines, but mining never came naturally to Stromvel who much preferred cracking heads. After getting into a fight with (and hospitalizing) the Clan’s last enforcer they offered him a job with pay, respect and all the fights he could ever want. Quick to laugh and quick to anger he’s been a central member of the Clan ever since. After 3 successful attempts he will be convinced.
PCs can approach Trem with either Athletics, Brawl or Coordination (representing physical feats that he respects). His starting difficulty is easy with one setback ◆■ , and each attempt upgrades the difficulty of the next attempt twice (he gets bored easily).
Lieutenant Brigid ‘Frigid’ Van Carrnum (Human, female)
Brigid thinks most of the clan are idiots, she is usually right. As Boss Glacier’s niece she was encouraged to attend a fancy city school and pursue her passion as a chemist. A passion she now uses to ensure that the Clan’s drug supplies are both high quality and mass-producible. A smart and educated young woman she finds the Clan’s rustic ways a little passé, but still retains a fierce loyalty to the family. Her nickname comes unsurprisingly from her personality. After 3 successful attempts she will be convinced.
PCs can approach Brigid with Medicine, Education or Deception (Representing either what she is genuinely interested in or the ability to fake it). Her starting difficulty is hard with one setback ◆◆◆ ■, but her difficulty does not upgrade after attempts.
Lieutenant Markus ‘Smiler’ Greatscholar (Human male)
The Clan’s charming trigger man, Markus comes from an old Obroa-Skai family that fell apart in his early teens. The young man fell into a life of crime which he found he quite enjoyed, particularly after he learnt empathy was optional. Most of the Clan is quietly terrified of Smiler since his friendly and open expression disguises a hardened killer. After 3 successful attempts he will be convinced.
PCs can approach Markus with Ranged -Light, Ranged-Heavy or Coercion (his passions in life). His starting difficulty is average with two difficulty upgrades ⬟⬟, and he adds a setback dice after every attempt to sway him.
Boss Pieter ‘Glacier’ Van Carrnum (Human male, old)
The undisputed head of the Clan is Boss Glacier, a wiry old man with bright eyes set deep in his skull. The Van Carnnums were one of the Clan’s founding families due their their encyclopedic knowledge of the planet’s best smuggling routes, a tradition Piete has maintained. The Boss likes letting everyone speak first before offering his own opinion. While ruthless, he does consider what is best for the Clan first. After 3 successful attempts he will be convinced.
PCs can approach Pieter with Survival, Discipline or Resilience (representing the skills the Clan is built on). His starting difficulty is hard with one difficulty upgrade and a setback dice ⬟ ◆ ◆ ■, and his difficulty upgrades by one after every attempt.
