D8 - Get Wrecked (All Day Event)
D8 - Get Wrecked (All Day Event)
Get Wrecked
Supplies are running low in camp and the Concord Dawn only carried so much when it fell to earth. While Obroa-Skai doesn’t have any convenient unguarded depots lying around, Captain Borintus knows where there’s plenty of military grade salvage, in orbit above! Of course, getting to it evading Mandalorian patrols and stealthy harvesting from a swirling zero-g junkyard. But if it was easy to get, scavengers would have picked it clean already.
In this event PCs will travel into the atmosphere to try and find usable salvage while hopefully not alerting Crusader patrols. At the end of the event, participating characters will have generated a personal pool of credits that may be spent on equipment, attachment and mods (with a maximum rarity of 6). Players have until the end of day 9 to make purchases from this pool or it is lost.
This All Day Event is open to all PCs, each PC who participates must roll for all steps.
Each advantage equals 25 credits worth of salvage while each threat reduces salvage by 10 (to a minimum of 0). Each Triumph rolled equals 50 salvage and upgrades the ability of the PC’s next check. Each Despair reduces salvage by 25 (to a minimum of ) and upgrades the difficulty of the PC’s next check by 1.
Step 1 - Up up and away
First you actually have to get into orbit. That means fitting some shuttles with makeshift stealth plating to avoid Mandalorian sensors. And of course, the more room you make for salvage the more you can take home with you.
PCs can choose to either help retrofitting the shuttles with an average mechanics check with one setback, or they can help with the heavy lifting by making an average athletics check with one setback ◆◆■ . Success and every two additional successes adds 50 credits to their salvage pool.
Step 2 - The trouble with getting high
Now it’s time to pilot the shuttles up and into orbit. You’re a little worried since Captain Borintus said this would be ‘a good time’ and when an ace says that it’s best to buckle in.
PCs can choose to either pilot one of the shuttles or keep an eye out for Crusader patrols by making either a piloting-space or a vigilance at hard with one difficulty upgrade. ⬟◆◆ . Success and every two additional successes adds 50 credits to their salvage pool.
Step 3 - Jackpot
Despite the rocky ride you’ve made it. The enormous debris cloud from your first battle spins slowly around the brilliant whiteness of Obroa-Skai below. Gutted escort ships tumble next to fire ravaged fighters while some land transport drift incongruously through the void. It will be hard safely retrieving anything from that, but it should be worth it.
PCs can choose to either go out in vac-suits to manually recover valuables, or use the shuttles scanners to locate the good stuff by making either a coordination or atstrogation check. These checks are made at hard with one setback ◆◆◆■ . Success and every two additional successes adds 100 credits to their salvage pool.

Re: D8 - Get Wrecked (All Day Event)
"Shuttles? I thought most of those were already claimed and on reserve?" Vala brought up curiously when they proposed to send the volunteers into space. However, she recalled that time when the Republic army was so kind to let her get behind the helm of a tank, she imaged that her exemplary actions have earned her the privilege of all sorts of vehicles for the war.
When they brought her to the (junk) yard, she found herself immediately disappointed. "...that's the shuttle? Is that even space worthy?! Or am I just flying out there with a space suit and a shell with rockets strapped on it? You've got to be kidding me!" They merely gave her a shrug and let her get to work on it. Vala spent most of her time trying to properly seal the shuttle and not strapping it with rockets. It seemed that she found herself really worried about not having oxygen when she went up into space.
Vala found herself jumping into a vac-suit for good measure and getting in the 'helm' of the thing. She could have sworn this was just a lawn chair with a joystick strapped, surrounded by a hull. This wouldn't pass any Corellian inspection as 'space worthy' and probably an insult to all things called a 'ship'. In reality, it was a bit better than that but she had set her expectations so high that she found herself kind of hating this particular space horse that was given to her.
She would be launched into space without too much of an issue, although Vala found herself praying to the Force that she didn't get disintegrated or fragmented into space for trying to leave the atmosphere. Her ride wasn't smooth but it held together at the very least. It seemed that wearing the vac-suit was something she had to do anything as she merely opened the door and went out to collect as many parts as she could on a tether. If she was going to make it through this, she had a tall story to share back home.

Ah this was a military tactic that Fec was well versed in as a member of the 277th. or at least close enough to one that it made little difference. The Strategic Transfer of Equipment to Another Location was something they did fairly regularly after all. Since the higher ups always seemed to think they could make do at less.
That he was doing so in space under the eyes of Mandalorians and not other sources that wouldn't be named for various reasons, didn't really change things after all. So it was with gusto that he joined in with the efforts, helping add the various plating to the ship to make it less visible to the enemy before volunteering to help pilot a craft.
Unfortunately, it had been a bit since he'd practiced his shuttle piloting and it was slow going to get to their destination with the ship in tack. Which is why he happily turned over the controls to one of the others onboard so he could go find some treasure on his very own. He was far better in a space suit then manning the scanners after all. And while he didn't end up with a truly impressive haul, he certainly helped acquire some new inventory for the republic forces.

"And you say this is spaceworthy? Very good. I suppose I should roll up my sleeves then." The shuttle looked like a piece of junk, but if the Ace pilots of the Republic said it was sound then he wasn't going to question them. As the techs got to work welding bits of stealth plating to the hull, he used his force enhanced muscles to make more room inside for salvage. As usual the Force was on board with this idea and in no time they were ready to fly.
Zephrin was at good at piloting as he was at shooting so he left the ship in the capable hands of someone with actual training. Instead the blind Jedi "looked" for Mandalorians. By reaching out with the Force he was able to ensure they steered clear of any patrols. It was an odd feeling out in orbit. All the dancing particles of destroyed ships and bits of the Dawn that had been shot off. They made quite the spectacle in his force vision.
Clipping onto a line seemed like a bad idea, so instead he used the ship's scanners to locate promising looking energy signatures and elements. It was easy enough to get the computers and scanners to find the good stuff. It wasn't a massive haul but at this point every little helped!

"Now if we move these boxes over there, and stack them like so, we'll have more room for treasure!" Apollo exclaimed with delight as he instructed the others how to do it, showing that his muscles weren't just for show... he did actually work out!
And of course, he was in fact a captain of his own ship, so it was smooth flying with him in control. "I feel almost wounded some of you doubted me, but I trust I have shown now that there is nothing captain Apollo isn't capable of," he said with a confident smirk.
He knew that you couldn't trust scanners, not completely. Nothing could beat a person's treasure-sense and own eye-sight. So as they got into vac-suits, he even removed the eye-patch he always wore, revealing what looked like an elegant cybernetic eyeball of sorts that could have almost been made of jewels or something considering its fancy appearance. The good eye had never let him down when it came to looking for objects of value, and it didn't disappoint this time either.

Rece has had some notes about these shuttles for a long time, and now he finally gets vindication. With the cargo hold carefully organized and the stealth panels security foamed in place, the ship is spaceworthy. More than spaceworthy - it's the finest treasure vessel in the fleet.
Rece isn't a pilot. But then, pretty much no one else around here is either, and he's not about to make someone else pilot a ship he wouldn't fly himself. Plus, he stands by his work. No idea why everyone else breathes a sigh of relief when he volunteers. The trip up is, perhaps, rockier than expected, and with Rece too busy flying to look out the window, they nearly run afoul of a Mandalorian patrol. But he manages to steer them towards a promising salvage area.
Sure enough, the salvage is plentiful, although several pieces are lost as Rece tells the spacewalkers what he would do, which the taller crew members find physically improbable. It's not nearly enough to fill the extra spacious cargo hold, but it's a haul worth of the ship.

Re: D8 - Get Wrecked (All Day Event)
Snowflake had been in orbit a few times. That didn't mean he was used to it, or that he liked it.
His first time in space, in particular, he didn't feel he could ever forget - even thought he would very much prefer to, rather than reliving that in his memories and in nightmares.
With the homeclan, though, he had hardly ever had to do anything in orbit - they were very much focused on domestic matters, after all. There were a few times, though. And then there was the time he speant aboard the Concord Dawn. But that was it.
So when he hears Captain Borintus' orders, he is not exactly overjoyed about it. But orders were orders, and protecting the planet was more important than his comfort.
Doing the heavy lifting to help get equipment prepared was something the Gigoran was used to - but even in something as simple as this his little familiarity with spacecraft and zero-g operations showed. He tried his best to help, but it was clear the white giant wasn't used to this.
Once up there, he was told to keep an eye out for patrols, given his utter lack of practice with piloting even under easier circumstances. He kept looking, but saw nothing. Not even the stray asteroids that almost hit the craft. At least it was just an almost, so that was good!
Sending him out to fetch some scrap on his own in a vac-suit, now that was new to him. The view of Obroa-Skai below was really beautiful, and the Gigoran kept enraptured by it for some time. There and then, at least, he managed to forget those horrible months that often returned in his dreams. The white planet below reminded him of another one, one with taller mountains. One long gone. But this time, he knew he would be returning home instead of being taken who knows where.
He had expected a much worse experience out in the void, really. Of course, looking at the planet below and getting lost in a reverie wasn't what they had come here for, so after a few minutes the comm buzzed and reminded the Gigoran of what he should be doing. With so much time lost in that trance, there was only so much he could fetch - and it was tricky to find things and recognise what could be valuable among all that scrap. But - much to the surprise of the others in his shuttle - find some things he did.
Broken things, nothing particularly special. But it wasn't nothing!
