Crime and Pun-ishment Coordination

Post by Tomin » Sat Feb 25, 2023 6:52 pm

Yes I did just alter the title, based on what I expect the posts to look like here. ;p

Snipped for ease of access in this here coordination thread vs jumping back and forth.
Success = convince 3 lieutenants or 2 lieutenants and the boss. Convincing all the lieutenants and the boss will be considered a critical success

Every PC has 3 attempts to convince someone.

Difficulty increases for each lieutenant after each attempt (unless stated otherwise)

Lieutenant Trem ‘Hairs’ Fakale (Bothan, male)

Skills used: negotiation, skulduggery or astrogation
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is average with one setback ,
Difficulty Increase: upgrades by one after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Lieutenant Stromvel ‘Stone Fist’ Wudark (Dowutin, male)

Skills used: Athletics, Brawl or Coordination
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is easy with one setback
Difficulty Increase: upgrades by two after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Lieutenant Brigid ‘Frigid’ Van Carrnum (Human, female)

Skills used: Medicine, Education or Deception
Difficulty: Her starting difficulty is hard with one setback
Difficulty Increase: Does not upgrade
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Lieutenant Markus ‘Smiler’ Greatscholar (Human male)

Skills used: Ranged -Light, Ranged-Heavy or Coercion
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is average with two difficulty upgrades
Difficulty Increase: Add a setback die after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Boss Pieter ‘Glacier’ Van Carrnum (Human male, old)

Skills used: Survival, Discipline or Resilience
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is hard with one difficulty upgrade and a setback dice
Difficulty Increase: His difficulty upgrades by one after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Hairs is the easiest one for Apollo, as Negotiation is his strongest skill out of those listed (2 green+2 yellow+1 auto-advantage) with a built-in downgrade from the Congenial talent.

Also good, but he upgrades faster than most.

Snowie's best shots would be
Stromvel:
Brawl
vs (89,7%)
or (second attempt) (77,7%)
or (third attempt) (63,5%)

(If I'm upgrading twice correctly!)

Snowie might wait to deal with him after he gets upgraded once or twice if others want to have a shot at him first.
or
Boss Pieter:
Discipline
or
Resilience

vs (64,4% with Resilience, 62,1% with Discipline. Might be 72,7% by spending Destiny)
or
(second attempt) (59,5% with Resilience, 57,3% with Discipline. Might be 68,3% by spending Destiny)
or
(third attempt) (54,5% with Resilience, 51,9% with Discipline. Might be 63,6% by spending Destiny)
The problem, of course, being how dangerous all these challenge dice are.

He'd be meh or very meh vs the other three. And I know the boss is a dangerous prospect...

EDIT: Adding probabilities. I also noticed Resilience may be even better than Discipline for the boss, so adding that too.

Terreck has a few different rolls available to him here. I'll post them after every character.

Lieutenant Trem ‘Hairs’ Fakale (Bothan, male)

Skills used: negotiation, skulduggery or astrogation
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is average with one setback ,
Difficulty Increase: upgrades by one after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

No skills in any of these but he has Cunning at 3 so 3g Skullduggery.

Lieutenant Stromvel ‘Stone Fist’ Wudark (Dowutin, male)

Skills used: Athletics, Brawl or Coordination
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is easy with one setback
Difficulty Increase: upgrades by two after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Slightly better rolls here from Terreck. Athletics 1y2g2b, Brawl 3g, and Coordination 4g,1b

Lieutenant Brigid ‘Frigid’ Van Carrnum (Human, female)

Skills used: Medicine, Education or Deception
Difficulty: Her starting difficulty is hard with one setback
Difficulty Increase: Does not upgrade
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Technically speaking he could roll Deception at 3g

Lieutenant Markus ‘Smiler’ Greatscholar (Human male)

Skills used: Ranged -Light, Ranged-Heavy or Coercion
Difficulty: His starting difficulty is average with two difficulty upgrades
Difficulty Increase: Add a setback die after every attempt
To Convince: 3 successful attempts

Another good one for Terreck. Ranged Heavy 2y2g, Ranged light 1y3g

Some fairly favorable rolls here. Survival 2y1g, Resilience 1y2g2b
Human * Republic Sergeant * 277th * Forward Operator * Easy Going
Carries: Laminate armor, Blaster Carbine, SH-9, Vibroknife, Odds and Ends.

I generally do best with Medicine at 2eP+2eA (and a Boost if a Medpac would apply). Education and Mechanics are slightly worse. Then I can do Athletics followed by Brawl, Ranged: Heavy, or Resilience; all of those are in the 3 Attribute Range.

Given what probabilities look like with FFG, there's a reasonably high chance we'll be rolling against awfully high dicepools for the 3rd success against any of them.

I'm thinking maybe it'd be a good idea to start charting who's got the best rolls for each of our lovely clansfolk to try to optimise our chances to get each of them convinced? What do you think?

Based on what we have so far, the best for each one seem to be:

Lieutenant Trem ‘Hairs’ Fakale (Bothan, male)
1. Apollo: ⬟⬟◆◆, 1 auto-adv, 1 downgrade
2. Rece: ◆◆
3. Vala: ◆◆◆
4. Fec: ◆◆◆

Lieutenant Stromvel ‘Stone Fist’ Wudark (Dowutin, male)
1. Snowflake: ⬟⬟◆◆◆
2. Fec: ◆◆■■ or ◆◆◆◆
3. Vala: ◆◆◆
4. Rece: ◆◆◆◆
4.Tomin: ◆◆◆◆
6. Zephryn: ◆◆◆

Lieutenant Brigid ‘Frigid’ Van Carrnum (Human, female)
1. Zeline: ⬟⬟◆◆ (possibly )
2. Zephryn: ◆◆◆
3. Rece: ◆◆◆◆
4. Vala: ◆◆
5. Fec: ◆◆◆
(I'm guessing Flora probably has good rolls here too!)

Lieutenant Markus ‘Smiler’ Greatscholar (Human male)
1. Fec: ⬟⬟◆◆
1. Rece: ⬟⬟◆◆
1. Tomin: ⬟⬟◆◆
4. Vala: ◆◆◆

Boss Pieter ‘Glacier’ Van Carrnum (Human male, old)
1. Snowflake: ⬟⬟⬟■■ or ◆◆◆◆
2. Fec: ⬟⬟ or ◆◆
3. Zephryn: ⬟⬟
4. Vala: ◆◆◆
4. Rece: ◆◆◆

I'll try and update as others post their rolls here

Some ideas based on the above:

- trying to guarantee Lieutenant Brigid (whose difficulty does not upgrade) and Markus (who adds setbacks instead of upgrading) might be good options.

- for Markus this is especially true if those with the best rolls can remove setbacks, if that might apply. Although he starts off with two challenge dice, so there's that.

- Other than those... Apollo might have some good shots with Hairs, although our best roll after that with Rece isn't very high. Might be useful to have Rece do a first roll on him then let Apollo try to finish him off?

- Stromvel we might try to take on with Snowie and Fec. We might maybe start off with Vala for the first roll, even. The risk here is, since he updates twice, things are bound to get pretty hard with him if we start failing rolls.

- The Boss is also tricky, and Fec and Snowie are also our best rolls there. So we might choose to move to him if things start getting too hairy with Stromvel.

The fact that failing rolls upgrades difficulties here means the order in which we do the rolls is kind of important... and I'm not sure how to and how much we can plan around that XD

What do you guys think?

Both sound sensible. And the folks working on Brigid all have decent pools to work with.

- for Markus this is especially true if those with the best rolls can remove setbacks, if that might apply. Although he starts off with two challenge dice, so there's that.
Tomin does not have the ability to remove setbacks (possibly very few do, since those are usually combat-focused, vs. conversation-focused abilities there)
- Other than those... Apollo might have some good shots with Hairs, although our best roll after that with Rece isn't very high. Might be useful to have Rece do a first roll on him then let Apollo try to finish him off?
Need 3 though. But he only upgrades once and starts middling. So possibly somebody...Rece...Apollo ?
- Stromvel we might try to take on with Snowie and Fec. We might maybe start off with Vala for the first roll, even. The risk here is, since he updates twice, things are bound to get pretty hard with him if we start failing rolls.
Worth using people's 'extra' rolls there since we all can roll 3x.

I'm assuming our 3 rolls can be split however we want...which also means we probably want to be rolling one attempt at a time...which drags out the time quite a bit, so ought to start in on them tomorrow.

But it might make sense to work like we have for the room repairs of picking one to start on...people make their rolls and we either get the three successes or decide it's getting too hard to make any and move on. Then move to the next one... Possibly ping folks on Discord when they're up to roll?

Agreed with most of Tomin's ideas here, but I noticed I thought the same PC could choose to roll twice or even thrice to convince the same person. Was that Forbidden?

If that's NOT fobidden, throwing a decent but not fantastic roll at Hairs, then having Apollo throw his charm at him repeatedly might be a good way to go with him. Whatcha think?

As one of the brainy folks, I think you're probably helping sweet-talk Brigid. Yeah?

I'm going to see if Markus wants to talk guns in the near future, unless someone else jumps on the first rolls there.
