The ongoing attack on Nus Gralwill hopefully distract the Mandalorians long enough to allow a small group to infiltrate the famous Celebratus Archive. Bal’Fortenes continued siege of Obroas has developed into a single minded fixation. There must be more to it than a strategic location, this is personal, somehow. If the answers are anywhere on Obroa-Skai, the Archive is the first place to look. One of the galaxy’s most celebrated collections of data, this ancient institution has the answers to questions some would consider unnatural.
In this event the PCs will infiltrate the Celebratus Archive and attempt to divine Warlord Krenna Bal’Fortenes’ goal without alerting the Crusader garrison.
This event is open to all PCs, each PC who participates must roll for all steps. Players are highly encouraged to coordinate.
There are 3 possible answers contained within the archive, one is correct, two are red herrings. At the end of the event each answer will roll a dice pool and the pool which rolls the highest number of successes (triumphs add an extra success, despair's upgrade the ability of a random red herring, advantages convert to successes at a 2:1 ratio) will be the answer the PCs leave with. The right answer will give you an advantage when confronting the warlord, the wrong answer might leave you dangerously exposed.
Advantage and Disadvantage are turned into boost and setback for that character’s next roll at a rate of 2 to 1. Every 2 triumphs upgrades the dice pool of the correct answer’s roll by 1, every despair upgrades the ability of one of the red herrings’ rolls (assigned randomly).
Each answer starts with a base ability pool of ◆◆
Step 1 - Going to the Library
First you actually have to get into the archives. Resembling 6 titanic metal lances stretching into the sky, you know most of the archive is actually below ground. Traditionally supplicants would enter one of the spires corresponding to their desires (the spires are named Power, Healing, Family, Charts, People and Universe). They would then descend into the depths of the archive to petition the archivists. The war has upended all of this as half the spires have been sealed and the other half are guarded by bored looking Crusaders.
Power, Family and Universe remain open, you must pick one of these spires. The spire with the most total successes rolled by players throughout the event who select it will be the spire chosen! Choosing the correct spire will upgrade the ability of the correct answer’s roll by 1, Choosing the wrong spire will give two upgrades (randomly assigned) to the red herrings.
PCs wishing to gain entrance to the archives may choose to roll an average with one setback deception, stealth or education to get in either without the guards noticing, or by convincing them you’re an innocent archivist ⬟ ◆ ■ . Success and every 2 additional successes will upgrade the ability of the right answer’s roll.
Step 2 - I hope they use Dathomirian Decimal
Now that you’re inside the seemingly infinite archive stretches out before you. Almost every form of data storage imaginable is used down here from paper books and sculpture to clouds of pheromones which project ancient memories. With the archivists gone searching this collection is a daunting prospect, but you didn’t come here to backout after some light reading, right?
PCs wishing to search the spire may choose to roll an average with one setback and one upgrade education, perception or computers check ⬟ ◆ ■ . Any player may choose to add two boost dice ■■ to their roll to represent following a hunch, but if they do so and do not succeed a randomly assigned red herring will receive an upgrade. Success and every 2 additional successes will upgrade the ability of the right answer’s roll.
Step 3 - It runs on some hyper advanced storage, V…C…R?
Now that you’ve located the information it’s time to try and interpret it. Depending on the medium of storage, this might be harder than expected. The Archive does have all the necessary equipment to display the knowledge stored here, one simply has to match the information to the system.
PCs may choose to roll computers, mechanics, education, lore or vigilance at hard with one upgrade and one setback to try and match the data to the correct system ⬟ ◆ ◆ ■ . Force sensitive PCs may add their force rating to this roll to represent the force guiding them in this crucial moment. Success and every 2 additional successes will upgrade the ability of the right answer’s roll.
